During that period they're working directly with your team on real deliverables. You see how they think, how they communicate, how they fit. At the end of the 180 days, if you want them on your payroll, the handoff is yours to make.

If you need more time to evaluate, you can extend the engagement, or if the fit isn't right — for any reason, technical or personal — you can request a different specialist or exit early with terms written in your favor. We're not in the business of holding a client to a relationship that isn't working.

What's the difference between Experts as a Service and traditional staff augmentation? +
Staff augmentation places bodies by the hour and rotates them when contracts end. Experts as a Service embeds a senior specialist into your team with a dedicated project manager, continuity across engagements, and accountability for outcomes — not just hours. You get one point of contact, not a vendor handoff queue.
How is this different from hiring a freelancer or independent contractor? +
Freelancers manage themselves and disappear when a contract ends. Our embedded experts are backed by a Pixelworx project manager who tracks deliverables, maintains institutional knowledge about your business, and absorbs the operational overhead. If a specialist needs to step away, the engagement continues — the relationship is with Pixelworx, not with a single person.
What does the 180-day specialist engagement cost, and what happens if it isn't working? +
Pricing is scoped to the engagement, not a fixed rate card — the right senior engineer search isn't priced the same as a junior designer placement. If the specialist isn't the right fit at any point, you can request a different match or exit early with terms written in your favor. We don't lock clients into relationships that aren't working.
Can we hire the specialist directly at the end of the 180 days? +
Yes — that's the entire point of the model. The handoff is yours to make whenever you're ready, with no separate placement fee at conversion. You've already watched the person perform on real work for half a year; bringing them in-house is paperwork, not a leap of faith.
Can you augment our existing development or design team? +
Yes. Most embedded engagements run alongside an internal team — adding a senior engineer when a sprint is overloaded, a DevOps specialist for a migration, a designer when a brand refresh hits, or an AI / MCP engineer for an integration push. We adapt to your existing tools, standups, and review processes.
How fast can an embedded engagement start? +
Embedded engagements usually start within days of scoping the work. Specialist vetting for a direct-hire match takes longer — typically two to four weeks to source, screen, and place — because the goal is the right person, not a fast warm body. If timing is critical, tell us up front and we'll structure the engagement around it.
